Our arrival to the Hanoi Happy Hotel was a disaster. We had just got f the plane from France and rather exhausted when reception told us our room was not available ( I had booked 2 months previous) and moved us to an other hotel a couple of doors down. Now I hate making a fuss, so we sheepishly moved to our new accommodation , to find intensive building works going on, next to our room...no way could we have a rest or even a slight bit of comfort! I got angry at this stage and lo and behold a room was found in the original hotel! Now I have worked in the tourist industry and I know this is a current practice...charging you top price then putting you in inferior accommodation and rent your original room. I guess knowing we were been played made it worse!
This said, the hotel was fine, centrally located clean and the staff very good, particularly the porters. Breakfast was very good too. And I sincerely wish they hadn't played that trick on us. Anyway all ended well and I would recommand this hotel, just beware...anywhere in the world when they tell you they have to put you in the annex!
Stayed March 2011, traveled as a couple
